yes, i must agree, the drummer for the band "Treeleaf" really is exceptional

as far as being moved, theres moved, and theres moved -- depending on the situation -- when the neighbor kid starts beating on his drums(he really can't play, unlike the treeleaf drummer), and i am out on the boat sanding, in 80 farenheit, in direct sunlight, i give in to the need to escape, and put on my mp3 player -- for such occasions, i will confess vintage ac-dc does the deed(i know, "this guy is the father to 3 daughters?!" -- you should have seen way back when i introduced my 15 yr old to red hot chili peppers -- the rest of the parents loved me) -- of course, this gets old very fast

well, at least my mp3 player is a "zen stone"

but for what i think you're looking for, i like the song "big music", by the waterboys

"i will always climb the mountain
because i have heard the big music
and i'll never be the same
something so pure has called my name"

but for "love", of the romantic kind, theres only one song: "i only have eyes for you", by the flamingos

I've mentioned this one before, but I think it stands to be mentioned again:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XnXTi0wzfyQ]

The lyrics make me think of some of Dogen's perspectives on time:

She lives--no fear
Doubtless in everything she knows
Her time--unchecked
The sureness of her flows
She leaves herself inside you when she goes

She lives in a time of her own

You have always heard her speaking
She's been always in your ear
Her voice sounds a tone within you
Listen to the words you hear
Her time has no past or future
She lives everything she sees
Her time doesn't spin outside her
It's in every breath she breathes

She lives in a time of her own

Her love whips hard like wind and stabs in eager pains
She wins your thoughts and drives your inner planes
She clears and shares a love that never strains

She lives in a time of her own

You have always heard her speaking
She's been always in your ear
Her voice sounds a tone within you
Listen to the words you hear
Her time has no past or future
She lives everything she sees
Her time doesn't spin outside her
It's in every breath she breathes

She lives in a time of her own

Her eyes bring light, reflect the aura of her hair
She sends, attends, behind an alpha stare
She seeks the stars and spirals up their stairs

She lives in a time of her own

And how about this one?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=feHgfmQeNQQ]

All these nights have made me crazy
I can't seem to come around
Days of hiding in the sunshine
Feeling nighttime's falling down
Oh, I see another moon over me

All these lies have got me thinking
"Maybe this is just a thought"
Soon my ship of thought is sinking
Slipping through the thinking knot
Pulling back the veil are monkeys
Hidden there are monkeys more
Someone spills a jar of honey
Sticky monkeys crawl the floor
Oh, I see another moon over me

Re: Music that moves you?

I have always enjoyed Stuart Davis for "Buddhist music", he is a little raw sometimes.
Being from a gothic industrial background however I have always liked the song " We are" by Din Fiv...
One world, two sides
Who is wrong, who is right
What's yours, what's mine
Only shades of black and white

One self, two minds
One desires, one decides
What is wrong, what is right
Only shades of black and white

We are young
We are old
We are helpless
We are strong
We are islands in an endless sea

We are lost
We are found
We are hunter and the hunted
We are objects of obscurity

One life, little time
No one knows the reason why
People come, people go
Here today, gone tomorrow

We are alive
We're not alone
We can survive
If we are one
In a million years
Are we still victims of our fear

We are free
What we are to believe
Is what we will become
We are day, we are night
We are death, we are life
We are skin, we are blood
We are hate, we are love

We are fire, we are stone
We are flesh, we are bone
We are moon, we are sun
We are tool, we are gun
We are rain, we are snow
We are reap, we are sow
We are rich, we are poor
We are peace, we are war

We are Heaven
We are Hell
We are

Re: Music that moves you?

thanks, steph, for picking my favorite early roky song -- i suspect the great lyrics were in fact done by tommy hall -- who, if i recall, wound up on skid row in san francisco -- but roky's delivery was incredible

Re: Music that moves you?

this isnt a song that moves me so much but it is a nice song non the less

Van Morrison - Enlightnment

Chop that wood
Carry water
What's the sound of one hand clapping
Enlightenment, don't know what it is

Every second, every minute
It keeps changing to something different
Enlightenment, don't know what it is
Enlightenment, don't know what it is
It says it's non attachment
Non attachment, non attachment

I'm in the here and now, and I'm meditating
And still I'm suffering but that's my problem
Enlightenment, don't know what it is

Wake up

Enlightenment says the world is nothing
Nothing but a dream, everything's an illusion
And nothing is real

Good or bad baby
You can change it anyway you want
You can rearrange it
Enlightenment, don't know what it is
Chop that wood
And carry water
What's the sound of one hand clapping
Enlightenment, don't know what it is

All around baby, you can see
You're making your own reality, everyday because
Enlightenment, don't know what it is

One more time

Enlightenment, don't know what it is
It's up to you
Enlightenment, don't know what it is
It's up to you, everyday
Enlightenment, don't know what it is
It's always up to you
Enlightenment, don't know what it is
It's up to you, the way you think
I gained nothing at all from supreme enlightenment, and for that very reason it is called supreme enlightenment
- the Buddha

Not exactly a Buddhist song, but still...

The Jam (Paul Weller)-- That's Entertainment
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mv55WsedLYI]

police car and a screaming siren
pneumatic drill and ripped up concrete
a baby wailing and a stray dog howling
the screech of brakes and lamplights blinking

that's entertainment

a smash of glass and the rumble of boots
an electric train and a ripped up phone booth
paint splattered walls and the cry of a tom cat
lights going out and a kick in the balls

that's entertainment

days of speed and slow time mondays
pissing down with rain on a boring wednesday
watching the news and not eating your tea
a freezing cold flat with damp on the walls

that's entertainment

waking up at 6 a.m on a cool warm morning
opening the window and breathing in petrol
an amateur band rehearsing in a nearby yard
watching the telly and thinking 'bout your holidays

that's entertainment

waking up from bad dreams and smoking cigarettes
cuddling a warm girl and smelling stale perfume
a hot summers day and sticky black tarmac
feeding ducks in the park and wishing you were far away

that's entertainment

two lovers kissing at the scream of midnight
two lovers missing the tranquility of solitude
getting a cab and travelling on buses
reading the grafitti about slashed seat affairs
