iconography dhyana mudra

i bought a buddha and in his hands he has a little ball. i have seen that before, but not often. you see buddha's with a bowl or a medicine jar, but not with a ball. Some one a idea?

I am not 100% sure, but I have heard that the Buddha holding a ball (Medicine Ball) was seen as the Medicine Buddha.

Jundo is good for these historical figures too. =)

It may be as Shingen says. Medicine would be inside. Or simply a pearl of Wisdom, which is not uncommon in some Chinese statues (this is my guess).

They are sometimes round however such as this held by Jizo ...

I also wonder if it is just an interpretation of the maker of the statue? A lot of the Happy Buddha statues have him holding a ball. Just a thought ...
