    Beginning a New Season

Once again, the beginning of winter marks the start of our sixth review of the 108 Gates of Dharma Illumination. This practice celebrates the 108 Days between Winter Solstice and Vesak; which is on April 8th, the day when East Asian Buddhists mark the Birth of Buddha.
Before tomorrow's posting I hope you will google the number 108 to learn its significance and, perhaps share with us what you find out.

Please join in tomorrow at my blog

Thankyou Shokai, This is a great practice and your review really is beneficial for a person with very little free time.

I will follow again, and have thoroughly enjoyed it in past years.

        Thank you Shokai,
Two things that stood out for me from Wikipedia:
In Japan, at the end of the year, a bell is chimed 108 times in Buddhist temples to finish the old year and welcome the new one. Each ring represents one of 108 earthly temptations (Bonnō) a person must overcome to achieve nirvana.
        (That's a lot of temptation!)

And... 108 is the hyper-factorial of the number 3. Three to the power of three times two to the power to two times one.

        Gassho,
        Kevin

A good friend of mine sent me this little article on the number 108.

IF SOMEONE ever tells you to say the number 108 into Siri, don’t do it.

              Gassho,
              Geoff.
