    Podcasts

    Hi all,

Can anyone who is familiar with podcasts recomend any good Buddhist podcasters(?) ?
What would be the best app to listen to them ?

Until now I was not interested in this media but it would be a great alternative to the radio on long drives.

I know that podcasts were mentioned in earlier threads but the forum is a big house to search...

    Thank you.

    Hi Ryudo,

On our recommended book and media list, we have a bunch of podcasts and recorded talks by Soto folks. Of course, it is rather weighted toward Soto Zen and Shikantaza (there are a few exceptions, like Daiho Loori's wonderful Talks if you can find them, always worth the price of admission although more centered on Koan Introspection Zazen).

Hi, The following is a recommended book list for our Sangha. It covers a variety of works on Zen, life, “Just Sitting” Shikantaza Zazen, Master Dogen and Buddhism in general. Thank you to all who provided input, and the list is still open to new suggestions and additions. Please email or PM me (Jundo) with any

      Hi Ryudo

In addition to the Treeleaf podcasts I am subscribed to the Koun Franz and Domyo Burk podcasts listed above. I like both of their styles of presentation. To me, their expression of Soto Zen is very compatible with the teachings and discussions here at Treeleaf.

I’m going to put in my two cents for https://www.urbandharma.org
Rev. Kusula was the first person I listened to in podcast form on a long trip to Washington DC back when I started meditating. He had a gentle humor like Gil fronsdal. And he plays blues harmonica

Our list is weighted toward Soto Zen and Shikantaza, as that is the focus here. That doesn't mean that other podcasts and teachers are not excellent, but that the flavor and course of the practice might tend to be rather different from the style in a Soto Sangha like here. Not all "Zen" books or podcasts recommend or practice the same, especially the Rinzai and mixed Rinzai-Soto Sangha which emphasize Koan Introspection Zazen, and usually even have a rather different approach to what the typically call "Shikantaza." That's okay, just different (I like to say "precisely different at heart, yet different in approach"). Listeners or readers should just be aware of that when they hear teachers who seem to be saying "same but rather different" things (I often get students who say to me, "Oh, I didn't understand why all these "Zen" books seemed to be saying such different things sometimes on practice.")

We have a couple of readings available for learning to appreciate where different folks may be coming from ...

Hi Ho, Continuing this special series of "readings that will help in understanding Zen readings" ... This is something that I introduced here once before, but is well worth re-reading and understanding by all of us. The topic is a very clear list of "Eight Types of Enlightenment" as typically found in

Hi All, I thought to post some special reading topics. The theme is "readings that will help in understanding Zen readings". 8) For years and years, after first starting Zen practice, I would read many "Zen Books" but not quite understand why so many seemed to be saying rather different things (or the same

Howdy, I'd like to continue this special series of "readings that will help in understanding Zen readings" with a bit more of ... Once-Born, Twice-Born Zen by Conrad Hyers I agree with those folks who think the "Once-Born Twice-Born" categories are a bit black/white and broad brush. I do think the book

Also, you can always ask here about any differences you pick up on! One kitchen, many approaches to making the soup.

                    Thank you again all.

I subscribed to most of the suggested podcasts, so now I will need to spend many hours driving in my car to listen to them all....
