I usually keep overt politics out of this community. However, sometimes there are lines to cross. I posted this on a facebook discussion on the letter in response to someone who wished politics and such social issues would be kept out of Buddhism.

There is a time when politics crosses into our Bodhisattva Vows to Save All Sentient Being, our Precept Vows to avoid hate, to do good and avoid wrong speech, and basic human rights.

      Thank you Jundo

My first FB comment on this situation several weeks ago was "grayed out" by Facebook. I have felt totally helpless to see this happen right in my own back yard and so relevant to our family history. It is beyond politics and reflects a loss of a moral compass by the current Administration of the United States.

          Thank you Jundo.

In regards to overt politics, for me this topic isn't about politics. While I have personal beliefs about immigration policies, this letter is not about those topics. It is concerned about what is happening right now to children and how we are treating people.

Not that I know much of anything, but I think how we treat people is a huge part of Buddhism. But those are just my two cents that won't even buy you a stick of gum.

I am grateful that you have, Jundo. It occurred to me yesterday that we needed a Buddhist response to this [I have no appropriate descriptor], and it disturbed me that I wasn't seeing anything. I have been speaking out myself from my own core beliefs and understandings of Buddhism. Then I had a feeling that it was coming, and a sense that you would be speaking out on it also.

Since I have been here, when it matters -- you have spoken with a voice of truth on issues of humanity, compassion and justice, never lightly. Thank you.

This is absolutely not about politics. As parents and children ourselves, all must stand and say no! Children are remarkably flexible, but this can break them without hope of repair.

Thanks for sharing this, Jundo. Regardless of politics, there has to be a better way to address this issue then separating children from their parents. I have signed.

Although illegal immigration is an issue separating families like this is not the solution. There must be a middle way.

This may be posted elsewhere, but the President has now made it so families will be kept together while detained. So that is something at least.
