Thanks for arranging this special talk. This was my first zazenkai. My internet connection cut out during zazen, but happily that allowed someone else to participate two-way.

    Gassho. Sat today.

No merit. Vast emptiness; nothing holy. I don't know.

Please take my words with a big grain of salt. I know nothing. Wisdom is only found in our whole-hearted practice together.

That was such fun - and certainly contained “ease and joy”. Now off to my kitchen!

Thank you Jundo for arranging, and it was great seeing some smiling faces today!

That was fantastic. Thank you to both Ed and Jundo for making that possible.

I think I will try to make biscuits tonight.

Lovely Zazenkai! Thank you for organising it, Jundo, and to Edward for a great talk and good discussion.

I forgot to ask the all important question of whether it is okay to make cinnamon swirls without raisins!

Looking forward to reading his new book. It is not available for order here just yet.

Still basking in both the "biscuits of today" and the "tasting the spirit of the grain" stories. Powerful. Delicious.

Wonderful stuff and so delighted that at 64 years old I no longer have to suffer Imposter syndrome and can abandon all pretence of ever growing up. Loved every moment, thank you Jundo Roshi and Rev Ed for making this happen.

This talk is now available as a podcast episode.

The youtube audio was not great. My attempts to clean it up met with mixed success. But the heart of the talk comes through fine anyway.

On Sunday May 6th, Soto Priest and famed former "Tenzo" (Head Cook) at the Tassajara Zen Monastery Rev. Edward Espe Brown offered a very special Zazenkai and Talk, live from California and Treeleaf Tsukuba. Edward Espe Brown, a Soto Zen Buddhist priest, was was ordained in 1971 by Shunryu Suzuki Roshi, and he received Dharma Transmission from Mel Weitsman in 1996. He was the first head resident cook at Tassajara Zen Mountain Center from 1967 to 1970. He later worked at the celebrated Greens Restaurant in San Francisco [then operated by San Francisco Zen Center], serving as busboy, waiter, floor manager, wine buyer, cashier, host, and manager. He has taught meditation retreats and vegetarian cooking classes throughout North America and Europe. He is the author of several books and also has edited a book of Suzuki Roshi lectures, Not Always So. Ed is the founder and teacher of the Peaceful Sea Sangha. Cinnamon rolls were wonderful yesterday. Thank you responding with wisdom and compassion. The bar in the kitchen of eddiebear Roshi is high. Next time I won't shy away from bringing the banana bread. Bows to all.
