    Hello Deborah,

Like folks have already said, practice builds over time, one sit at a time. =) You are correct that balance is key - there is a time to learn and understand this life, but there is also a time to just sit with this life just as it is. Take your time and you will find your natural groove. =)

Thanks to all of you for these helpful comments. I have a slightly disorderly life and naturally that turns up in my practice as well, and sitting regularly seems both the most difficult and the most necessary for me right now. So I am sticking to sitting shorter amounts of time--the 15 minutes Jundo recommends as a minimum--and well...trusting it to take hold. (Not there yet though...)

        This is very good.

I dedicate this to you ...

Zazen Is Not Necessary ... Thus It is Necessary To Sit ...
Hi, Some folks ask me if sitting Zazen for a certain time is necessary. In fact, it is not necessary in the least, nor a matter of time ... thus it is necessary to sit for a time! [scared] We sit beyond all time, and it is not necessary to sit at all ... thus we sit each day facing the wall for a certain time. Please don't

There is "nothing to attain" so please keep going, Deborah, until this Marvelous "Nothing to Attain" is truly known.

I commute to work for more than two hours round trip at least three days a week. I fill this travel time with a number of dharma talks from a handful of zen centers. I've found this a good way of learning about general Buddhist principles and a supplement to reading. Here's my list of podcast links.

            Sat today. Gassho.

No merit. Vast emptiness; nothing holy. I don't know.

I feel I have a lot in common with previous posters, moving from an intellectual approach to sitting more and reading less. However I do kinda love the dharma and never stop learning.
