                    Hi Kakunen,

I think it is possible to throw yourself completely into service of all sentient beings. That's exactly what this practice is about. We sit zazen and then we go out to the world and live our lives creating conditions for live to keep on going.

Yes, it is possible. You do it. I do it.

Selfish thoughts always come. But I practice not to act on them. I try to do good for others instead. I am better at it than I used to be, but practice never ends.

I agree with Kakunen that is is possible to completely throw yourself into service of all sentient beings. But the more important thing is to just start. Don't worry if it is all of you, some of you, a tiny bit of you - just take the step. Get started. Worrying about how much of yourself you are committing will likely just get in the way.

Don't forget that service to others begins with care for the self. One has to be strong, calm and healthy to help others, and that includes taking care to rest oneself.

It is like putting on the oxygen mask in the airplane. One puts the mask on oneself in order to help others.

The Buddha spoke of many ways to help people. Offering food, shelter and other material goods is one way. Offering support and friendship is another. Offering Buddhist Teachings so that people can know Liberation is another.

Sometimes the way to help people is to give them a fish, but better to teach them to fish for themselves. (Famous ことわざ )

In Buddhist stories, sometimes a poor man could only donate a handful of food, while a powerful or rich person can feed thousands of people. The Buddha praised both.

HeThankyou for this question, and the opinions above.

I think as long as you consider this issue, and how to be boddhisatva, then you ARE the "throwing your whole being into buddha". As long as you care, you are prajna, if com passion is existing, then wisdom exists, even if we fail nothing is ever less.

Life-and-Death is the only thing worth considering, and if com passion exists, buddha exists.

When asked about substituting ingredients in his recipe, Mario Battalli said "if its TRUE, then its real".

I think proof is in the pudding, if understanding, com passion and tolerance are important to us, then our living is buddha-itself.

I can not say this clearly but please trust you ARE throwing your whole life into buddhism, right now, perfectly.
