Thank you for posting this. I've been slowly gathering a few ebooks together but some how overlooked this one in Jundo's suggested reading list. Can't see how as its directly under the banner headline

GREAT ZEN BOOKS - RECOMMENDED FOR EVERYONE:

Doh. Having read the synopsis on amazon I've just added it to my collection of much needed beginners books.

Would I be best leaving the Shohaku video until after reading the book or would his commentary serve as a useful prelude?

I have not watched the video yet but judging by the description on YouTube I assume that it is part of the ongoing effort of Okumura to discuss the whole book (almost line by line). There is some more information about this in the thread Dharma Audiobooks. That means that you could choose to read the book and simultanously have it commented by Okumura

That is one of the best books I've read. It's got a lot of zen wisdom. My hearing is not as skillful as when I was younger, so I'm glad I can still read. Youtube's auto translate gives hilarious results!
