Oh my, how beautiful! Do you mean the photo or the actual statue, she seems rather precious to part with! Shall I message or email you?

The actual statue. I ordered two by mistake (really...) so one is surplus to requirements and needs a home better than the current box.

Please do email your address and I will send.

          Hi Simon,
          I live in Harrogate, Yorkshire.
It occurred to me a while ago that it might be a good idea for some of us Brits to meet up for a little sesshin at some point. It's not a big country we live in so none of us are too far away - Richard excepted - the problem is not distance but traffic - I spent two stationary hours on the M62 the other week. I met up with Nindo (although she lives in Canada) the other week which was really special to meet a fellow Treeleafer in person. It's clear, watching Jundo's travels across the US, that many Treeleafers enjoyed meeting each other. There is something about physical presence and eye contact that is a unique experience. It's just a thought.
By the way, Simon, I really like your current 'Buddha'. I too use a beach pebble - I'm more Quaker than Catholic when it comes to religious paraphernalia. Actually, it doesn't have much significance for me. It's just something I use to rest my eyes on and take my attention away from the fact that I need to re-decorate. Also I live in a chaotic house with three teenage lads so I have to hunt around for a quiet space between the the thrashing of electric guitars or blaring 'Game of Thrones'. So hulking a whole alter around with me would make the whole thing even more difficult.

          Wishing you all well,

          Martyn.

Here is a walk through in creating or changing your Avatar:

            1. Click on "Settings" in the user profile section.
            2. Scroll down to the "My Settings" box and click "Edit Avatar" in the My Profile section.
            3. Click the "Use Custom Avatar" radio button.
            4. Enter a URL in the Option 1 box if the custom image you wish to use is on a website. Ensure that the image meets the requirements for size listed below the box. If the custom image is stored on your computer, click the "Browse" button in the Option 2 box, select the file and click "Open."
            5. Click "Save Changes" to see the avatar as it will appear on the site. The avatar will appear alongside your user name when you post a message on the site. New avatar's retroactively appear with previous posts.

Q: I cannot upload my picture for my profile because it is too large. How can I re-size my picture to conform to the forums image upload requirements?

A: A quick and easy way to do this is to visit http://shrinkpictures.com/create-avatar/
and follow the instructions given there. Also if you have re-sized your image and are certain it meets the 80 px by 80px @ 72 ppi requirements yet still cannot upload your image you can visit http://imageshack.us or http://www.flickr.com/ or any image hosting service and upload your image to be hosted, for free, there. and use the "Link to off-site Avatar" option.

Well, I think I've uploaded an Avatar. I can't see anyone's avatar on the forum though, never have been able to, so I'm not sure. Not sure what I'm doing incorrectly so I can't see avatars either

              Hi Simon

I'm down in Kent/Sussex. Today I bowed to a bowl of fruit, yesterday a Peppa Pig toy: we are currently living at my Mother in laws as we have work done on our new house. I have no idea where my Buddha statue is (a Shakyamuni bought in a nic-nak shop in New Delhi). My wife did most of the packing for the move. I am optimistic it will turn up again. But you never know. She tends to be a bit dismissive of my Buddhist endeavours - this could all be cunning plan!
I like the idea of a UK Treeleaf gathering. Jundo, i don't suppose you might have a European tour in mind some time?

Sounds like a UK meet up is on the cards. Would people just want to meet and greet or do a mini-retreat?

Would anyone like to volunteer to organise it? As I am so new here, I don't want to over step my mark. Otherwise, I'll happily try and get something sorted.

                        Metta,
                        Simon.

Only just caught up with this thread. I'm in Ipswich. A UK meetup sounds great if people are still interested? Just found out I have an Amida rather than a Shakyamuni Buddha!

We have many members in the UK, and I am sure some will pop up here in a moment.

As to Buddha statues, I just want to mention that sometimes a Buddha statue looks like a Buddha statue, and is a good artistic reminder of our Way and its history. However, always recall that the true "Buddha statue" need not be or look like anything at all, and is simply all the peace and goodness found in one's heart. It can be an empty space, a flower, a stone ... even a coke bottle if the heart is wise. During our recent Retreat in California, our "Buddha statue" was a bit of newspaper that one of our members had received from a local homeless man.

I posted this once about "Buddha statues" ... It is in a thread where our members show their homebuilt altars, and I told the story of once getting in trouble for putting Osama Bin Laden, Mother Theresa and George Bush on the Altar after 9-11. They are Buddha too, even if one needs to see through some clouds things to see.

Does anyone have any advice on setting up and maintaining a home altar within this tradition. Thanks Brian

However, it is also fine to have a Buddha statue that looks like a Buddha statue.

I offered a talk, now faded into the impermanent, soon after the big earthquake in 2011 when many of our statues around here were smashed. The Talk is gone, but this little text remains ...

Do not be attached to symbols of non-attachment.

Pieces of broken Buddhas are each a Buddha complete.
That which is whole remains so, yet is divided.
Thus, no violence is ever done, though terrible violence be done.

We are, you and I, each broken Buddhas.
