What do you like to do ,kind of Just do it like Zazen?

Now I always try to do Just do it.

    Just sit.
    Just eat.
    Just sleep.
    Just cook.
    Just cleaning.
    Just saw.
    Just cry.
    Just walk.
This is just like Zazen ,I think.

Let me know. And share! How do you think about this idea?

I just clean Zen garden today, for 2 hours.Feel very good!

      Hi K,

The closest I get to the " Zen Spirit" is when I clean the garden, clean the car or walk to buy bread in the morning. I get completely immersed in the activity and I am fully aware of the surroundings. I more I drop, the more I explore everything with a new look.

Any activity can be "just do it." Changing the baby diaper, working in the garden, copying papers and stapling in the office, waiting (yesterday in my case) in a long customs line at the airport and getting the suitcases from the bag claim, cooking ...

But I heard a version of a story I often tell, this time by American Zen Teacher Zoketsu Norman Fischer about Korean Teacher Seung Sahn. It seems that Seung Sahn always taught his students to "just do it", for example, when drinking tea just drink tea, when eating just eat, when gardening just garden. But one time, his student came into the kitchen and found Seung Sahn sitting in the kitchen drinking tea while reading the newspaper and talking to someone some temple business. The student asked Seung Sahn if this "multi-tasking" violated his own teaching of "just do it"?

Seung Sahn replied, something like, "No, not at all. When drinking tea while reading the newspaper and talking, JUST drink tea while reading the newspaper and talking. That is just what one is doing in that moment."

People often confuse being "in the moment" (a sometimes beautiful, powerful Zen skill) with being "at one with the moment, whatever this moment is" (the real heart of theses Teachings). A warn about that confusion a little more in this old thread ...

        Being mindful of 'mindful'
It seems to me that many people in Zen Practice have come to confuse "being present/mindful in the moment" (for example, "when drinking tea, just drink tea" ... a sometimes appropriate and lovely way to experience life) ... with "being present with the moment" (allowing and merging with conditions

          Jundo,

I think your point is when you do something, don't think of something else!
When someone is talking to you, listen. However, you could be driving and talking to someone else. It's still being mindful.
          Right?

I love Just Do It! I like to make messes and not clean them up, waste money on things I don't need, and just avoid things that I should do in general. This is perfect Just Do It Zazen!

Although I try and be in "zen" mind during all tasks, listening to music seems to be the easiest. Music allows me to focus at work and relax in my free time.

I do this too. Zen is about not resisting life. That's it in a nut shell.

Even when you ARE resisting. When resisting, just resist.

I accept that the body resists and then it stops resisting. It's all part of being human. Thanks for that.
