    Here in the depths

All the storms that sink our ships with the most devastating waves are made of the stuff we desire, of lust and unbound consumerism. Once we open the door to greed it is very hard to close it again. We have grown addicted to have it all here and now, to navigate in circles towards fictitious objectives.

The dark clouds that cover it all are our aversions, fears, hate and the divisions we put among ourselves. Every wall, every opinion we cling to make the dreadful storm even bigger

And it doesn't stop. It never stops. We go from port to port looking for tranquility, whatever it is to make us happy. But all ports are made of the same mirages that end up being a lot more expensive than what we first imagined.

We are professionals in moving from one place to another, in setting goals and launching to achieve stuff.

But when we sit zazen it is possible to get to safe harbor. It's a place where calm and respite is not in what we can touch, but deep inside of us. It's profound. It's perfect.

Here in the depths there's nothing to fear. No place to go to because we are already where we need to be. There's no rush or urgency because time becomes meaningless. There's no hate, no barriers nor opinions to protect.

We can see thoughts passing by as if they were fish in the see. They come, get near and then they follow their way.

Here in the depths there are no storms.

    Only silence.

I've been keeping this (Fish Sutra ) close in thought and heart, and keep coming back to it. Thank you so much!

                            Beautiful picture, Kyonin.

I was reminded of those divers who go diving with sharks and stingrays.

Sometimes my sitting is peaceful like diving in a beautiful reef.

Sometimes my life and zazen are like a stormy shark attack.
It's not me being attacked, only an experience of stormy sharks that is as real as the silence and calm.

But I have a strange aquarium.
