Hi Folks,
An attack happened in my city Jakarta late last night and I've been following terrorism professionally for some years, so I'll make some comments.
Our teacher Jundo is spot on. As a strategy, terrorism is designed to sew terror in the populace. That's what makes it efficient; a little effort in comparison to a big impact. Don't give them what they want.
One goal of such attacks is to provoke hatred between Muslims and non-Muslims. So let's do what we do best: show compassion and understanding.
I'm not espousing a Pollyannaish attitude to security. We need airport checks. We need to lock our doors.
We just don't need to let it get to us. As I said to folks after the detonation of the Bamiyan statues of the Buddha: we don't like it, but it's more a tragedy for archaeologists and historians than it is for Buddhists. We hope the aversion, anger and delusion that led them to do these things, blowing up statues and self-detonation, will be dispelled.

I've come to feel that the list of victims of any terrorist attack includes the terrorists themselves. No purer expression of suffering than terrorism. Peace, Love, Metta to all victims--innocent, and guilty.
