Dear all
Friend of the sangha, Ben Connelly (author of Inside the Grass Hut) has written a new book on Vasubandhu's text 'Thirty Verses on Consciousness Only' called Inside Vasubandhu's Yogacara.
Probably most of us are pretty unfamiliar with the Yogacara school of Buddhist philosophy, which was a bridge between early Buddhism and Mahayana teachings, but the way Ben presents it sounds interesting and practical. I have not read the book yet but he gave a recent talk to Taigen Dan Leighton's Ancient Dragon Zen Gate sangha which was very enlightening:
Vasubandhu and Practical Yogacara
Zoketsu Norman Fisher has also spoken about it in several talks (I think he wrote the introduction or foreword to the book):
Vasubandhu's Thirty Verses talk one
Vasubandhu's Thirty Verses talk two
Vasubandhu's Thirty Verses talk three
Vasubandhu's Thirty Verses talk four
Vasubandhu's Thirty Verses talk five
Vasubandhu's Thirty Verses talk six
Vasubandhu's Thirty Verses talk seven
The text itself of Thirty Verses can be found here.
I wondered if it might be worth inviting Ben to lead another zazenkai with a gentle introduction to his take on Yogacara philosophy, or is this a subject that is a bit too esoteric?
