General Posting in the "How to be Sick" subforum

    Dear all

After extensive discussion (well, JinKan and I asked Jundo…) we are happy to open this part of the forum to anyone who wishes to post about practicing with illness, whether that relates to acute illness or more long-term poor health.

In the future there may be more guided study around another text related to illness (such as Darlene Cohen’s Turning Suffering Inside Out) but for now there seems to be no reason to let this area lie fallow.

Because Treeleaf is online, we understandably attract a number of members who would not otherwise be able to get to a Zendo because of health-related issues, so it seems like a good idea to be able to talk about how those issues affect our practice and how we work with them.

Two rules apply here (unless we think of more!):

    1. Posts need to be related to Zen practice. This is not just somewhere to talk about your ills in general.

    2. Please do not offer medical advice. We are not doctors, and neither is this a peer-to-peer illness support group. It is about Zen practice.

The other normal rules of the Zendo apply as regards to Right Speech and treating each other with respect.

Other than that, please do share your experiences and feel free to reach out to one of us if you wish to talk more privately about something.

Thank you so much for this safe place for tender discussion. Now I suffer from cold feet. Not sure what to post, but sure am glad to be in good company, so to speak. This illness has offered me the opportunity to drop notions of 'good practice'. It seems nothing I do meets the standards I hold in my 'head'; that having been said, however, I am just so grateful for my former teachers and friends who sat together, I hardly think it matters. Just to be together in cyberspace, the 'noosphere', is great, each time. Sitting with Treeleaf folks is very reassuring and I feel at home. Thank you, all who make it possible, and I hope to contribute something, as well.
    Gassho,
