If I may be so bold as to make a suggestion, posting a YouTube link with no explanation, particularly because the forum doesn't show a preview or even the title of the video, is not very useful.

Tips and Tricks with Bion: if from the menu bar you select the video button and add the link through that, it will automatically convert it to a player, rather than a link.

I went ahead and inserted it for him.

But still need to watch it! I will now.

Thanks for posting that, Matt. Not a lot of new information in the video, but probably new to folks who are not keeping up with these things. The video actually played down a couple of points that, as I understand, are a bit more advanced already than the video presents, such as mind reading (although still very, very crude).

... the following gets going about 8 minutes in ...

It is very VERY VERY FOOLISHLY dangerous to let corporations, governments, hackers and the general "internet" have any access to the human brain. I very much oppose it. However, in a sense, we are already doing that via the interface that we all carry in our hands that sometimes makes phone calls too.

We can, should, and perhaps must have some limited access to the brain for certain narrow purposes. Helping paralyzed people move and walk is one such function, curing depression, PTSD or other brain diseases is another. I would add that I advocate for some access to the brain for the purpose of (1) moderating anger and violence issues in persons prone to violence in rage (2) moderating and taming excess and unsated desires to consume, including addictions, and (2) enhancing human empathy are three worthy goals for which some intervention in the brain and the rest of the body may be worthwhile, safe, voluntary and the only hope for humankind in the long term.

PS - Just this week there were a couple of small developments worth mention ...

Researchers Develop Wireless Devices Small Enough To Wrap Around Neurons

Wearable devices like smartwatches and fitness trackers interact with parts of our bodies to measure and learn from internal processes, such as our heart rate or sleep stages.

Now, MIT researchers have developed wearable devices that may be able to perform similar functions for individual cells inside the body.

These battery-free, subcellular-sized devices, made of a soft polymer, are designed to gently wrap around different parts of neurons, such as axons and dendrites, without damaging the cells, upon wireless actuation with light. By snugly wrapping neuronal processes, they could be used to measure or modulate a neuron’s electrical and metabolic activity at a subcellular level.

Because these devices are wireless and free-floating, the researchers envision that thousands of tiny devices could someday be injected and then actuated noninvasively using light. Researchers would precisely control how the wearables gently wrap around cells, by manipulating the dose of light shined from outside the body, which would penetrate the tissue and actuate the devices. Mind-Reading Tattoos Revolutionize Brainwave Monitoring in Real-Time

Researchers have developed a liquid ink that can be printed directly onto the scalp to monitor brain activity, offering a less intrusive alternative to traditional EEG setups.

This ink enables the creation of e-tattoos that accurately track brainwaves and maintain connectivity over extended periods. These innovations could drastically change the application of brain-computer interface technologies, making them more comfortable and efficient for users.

So its strange. When I first got here when I posted a you tube link it was automatically detected. But at some point it stopped doing that... Strange?

Probably cause you were here before the major forum update. Did the whole shabang look different when you joined?

No worries. Soon we will be beaming videos directly into each others' brains. Youtube will be an implant.

I want to say that, looking over there, Bloomberg has a whole series of videos by the film maker, but I would take them with maybe a little bit with some grain of salt. She has one on Japan, and it is not the "robot centered" Japan that I know ... and I live in "Tsukuba Science City" with lots of robot makers here! She way exaggerates how common and accepted that robots are here. I cannot speak for the large factory floor, but they are not this common in daily life ...
                      . .
In fact, I just went yesterday to one of the few restaurants I know here that had a robot server, a kind of slow moving cart where the customers had to get up to retrieve their own food, and the human waiters kept tripping over the thing. They gave up on it.
                      .

                      .
This latest one is interesting though, but also not really new information for those keeping up ...

Yeah anything with the Bloomberg name has an agenda.... I just couldn't really suss out what it was aiming at... some of it was news to me... and most of it I had heard about in podcasts already.... It's nice to just see different takes on it I guess...
