'The ZEN of EVERYTHING! Podcast' ... Episode 19 ....

Episode 19: Original Buddhism, Changing Buddhism

What is "original Buddhism?" In the absence of texts from the Buddha's times, how can we know what the Buddha really taught? And how does the corpus of later texts help us understand Buddhism?

Well I started my day with a listen. As a trained doubter and one who was taught not to rely on memory...in other words if I did not make field notes I am not sure I remembered it correctly and if I did make notes then I wonder was my perception of the event correct or a delusion. So I view things from the past with a critical eye. This talk resonated very well with me. Good job. I just acquired a new handle “Relativist Buddhist”

A year or two ago I asked Jundo on this forum if I was a Buddhist (having participated in 3 different Soto Zen Ceremonies over the past 20 years even awarded Certificates suitable for “framing” and Jundo basically said I did not know what I was asking, or something like that since I did not write it down and doubt my memory. This talk helped me further clarify my answer to that self question.

    Thank you
