Oh no, behind a pay wall. Would love to read this. Several years ago I threw away the ear pods and podcast to “just jog”. Zazen in motion, a type of samu.

I am working through attachments to running. For years I was into masters track, but then the knees went bad. Now walking is a big part of my zen practice. There is that urge to think "I used to...." Holding on to the past. It helps to realize that with every step I'm not actually getting closer, or farther away. Each step is each step minus the mind candy. When I was sprinting, I was hyperfocused on each minute movement of the body (as well as that of competitors.) I try to bring that attention to non-competitively enjoying movement, sights and sounds and most importantly, the breath. It's all good.

I have a run no matter what, running schedule. So running in the rain is more common than I would like it to be. Big fan of running without music, though its nice to have the reminder to keep your cadence up.

The only time I run with music is on 20 mile training runs when I am building up to a marathon. I find running very much like meditation in that I feel very much in the present. And I want to experience that as fully as I can. The only reason I use music on the 20 milers is that, for me, I am pushing my abilities at that point and I have a series of songs that I use to pick up my motivation as I hit the final few miles. I always start with Tick Tick Boom by The Hives and end with one of the live versions of (I Know) I'm Loosing by Faces - the drum solo is my cue to push hard

I will admit that I will, on occasion, recite the Heart Sutra during some runs. Just feels right to me.
