I'm sick of following my dreams, man. I'm just going to ask where they're going and hook up with ’em later.

Thank you for the recommendations!
I've been dabbling in Haiku; It's therapeutic for somebody as verbose as I am try to get to the point in a 5-7-5 syllable offering.
A relatively recent book I haven't put on my list yet is Three Simple Lines by writer and Zen teacher, Natalie Goldberg. This is a good read about her visit to various haiku related places in Japan. Upaya Zen Center has hosted a number of haiku retreats with Natalie and others which are worth looking for in their podcast library.
For anyone wanting to contribute here, it is good to have a look at the introductory material explaining what a haiku is and isn't:

The great classic in ancient Haiku and modern Rezai Zen Haiku with interviews, which is ancient poetry is: Zen Poetry, ed. Lucien Stryk, 1977, Great Books by Cryal and Wyman, ltd, Europe; in the USA, A Penguin Book.
