Today we went to the Cherry Blossom Festival at the Japanese Friendship Garden in Balboa Park.

Are those Cherry Blossoms? Rather early(they usually bloom end of March in most climes except tropical places). I am thinking that they are Plum Blossoms that bloom this time of year in Japan.

More than you want to know ...

The pink and white flowers of cherry and plum trees are a tell-tale sign that spring has arrived on the South Coast, but can you tell the difference between the two kinds of trees?

Ahh Jundo, quoting some BC info I see ...

BC, rather Victoria which is just a couple hours south of me gets Cherry Blossoms very early sometimes ... a beautiful sight to see. =)

The trees were gifted from Yokohama in the seventies. I think they were still not quite all in full bloom.

Oh, I should have registered that you are in San Diego! That explains it. It is hot. The Cherry Blossoms also bloom early in Okinawa for that reason.

They won't get up here around Tokyo (or to Washington D.C. and other points north) for a few more weeks. However, we are enjoying those Plum Blossoms. Gassho, Jundo SatToday

Yes, I am noticing a lot of early blooms around here!

Here is another picture from the garden:

First attempt at making vegan sushi - with cucumber and yellow pepper (I prefer avocado but this was neater). I overstuffed it! But learned a lot while making my favorite food

So like, at the end of every semester here at my forestry college, all the students in the forest insects class have to put on bug costumes and do a little song and dance routine. Its called bug dance, and its really fun and silly, its one of my favorite traditions here at my school 🐛🐝🐜🐞
