Got this gift for my 30th birthday last week from my dear aunt Susanne. It’s a Crabapple tree. A flock of Robin red breasts came in January to eat the remains of the red berries (In Vermont, not in Barcelona). The whole scene and Dogen’s message are profoundly meaningful to me and I just wanted to share it. It reminds me of this quote:
“Birth is an expression complete this moment. Death is an expression complete this moment. They are like winter and spring. You do not call winter the beginning of spring, nor summer the end of spring.”
