Beautiful, Kokuu. Your sashiko cushion in another post was lovely too. Can imagine your friend will treasure this lovely depiction of Kannon.

PS Your offer about talking about practicing with physical limitations is much appreciated.

I am so glad this thread has been resurrected as I had never heard of sashiko and now I desperately want to try it. (But not too desperately!)

I flirt with knitting when I have time. I've made myself, my spouse and our dog jumpers, and I'm working my way slowly through a huge, simply-patterned red-and-black blanket. I did start another jumper for myself but then rakusu sewing came along and I devoted my spare time to that. I was already thinking about sewing a rakusu case and now I'm wondering if I could layer some sashiko into it...

      Much to think about.

Thank you to Bion, Kotei and Onki for welcoming me to my first Fukudenkai last Saturday. It was my first attempt at hand-sewing after learning to use my hands differently to adapt to changes resulting from MS. Here is the sashiko coaster that resulted. Kokuu, your work is inspiring. Zenken, we share knitting-dabbling; here is a recent hat for my husband, whose hairline is similar to that of many unsui. I would enjoy seeing your work!

I find that working with hands or cooking before and after zazen enriches my practice, helping transitions.

        Gassho,
        b.

Oh B, your sashiko is beautiful. And I love the pattern and colours on that hat!

Lovely work, ZenKen! Your dog is adorable, as is the poodle jumper. Is that the harness-friendly Jacquline Ciezlak pattern by any chance? That pattern is queued up for our mutt.

Started the full sized Nowaki (wind-blown grass) pattern... much better going this time with the proper needle.20230125_185624.jpg

I love seeing the fiber arts, and everything art! I have done sashiko (a bit) and quilting (lots) and embroidery and knitting (badly) and cross-stitch. Currently I am focused more on painting and drawing but love seeing any fiber art. Long live the arts lol. I can feel the presence of both my grandmother in the woven linens in my home. It is the harness-friendly jumper! My first time to doing cable knit.

I love your new sashiko project.
