[HealthDharma] Domyo Burk talks on practice with physical limitations

    Hi everyone

Domyo Burk recently posted two talks on her Zen Studies Podcast about supporting Zen students with physical health challenges and disabilities in response to several questions. It is good she is addressing this issue.

How can Sanghas support the Zen practice of people with physical challenges while preserving what is supportive to those without them?

I describe ten tested ways to do successfully accommodate people with physical challenges so they can participate in meditation retreats.

It is a really good podcast and, yes, there are a fair few episodes to enjoy by now! Domyo, in my opinion, does a really good job of teaching most of what we need to know about Zen.

This series was really good! I really like the host too, she has such a skilled way of explaining herself. Shes very accessible to listen to.

One of the parts she touched on really resonated with me. When she talks about how the discomfort of extended sitting and be very challenging but is a necessary part of reminding us of our fragile human lives. Some people don't need the same challenges of life and death though. People with chronic pain could very well start sesshin with the pain of a 8 hour sit and only have it increase well past that as the day goes on.

It makes me think that people with chronic pain have the upper hand in owning the philosophy behind the long sits and these are the the people that should be turned to. Are the people that sit still for three full days really the expert??
