The 33rd of 108 Gates Of Dharma Illumination

    Gate Thirty-three
Read the following, place it in your heart and sleep on it. Then, tomorrow, live it until evening when you can leave a brief comment on what you may have received during the process.

Awareness of time is a gate of Dharma illumination; for [with it] we do not treat spoken teaching lightly.

A “Dharma Gate”is a teaching or practice we can study to gain insights into the deepening our practice. It's a way to integrate our understanding of approaching reality.

    Koan:
"What a shame to have been born a human being and to spend your whole life worrying. You should reach the point where you can be happy to have been born a human. Birth, old age, sickness and death: we can't fool around with these ultimate facts. If you aren't careful you'll spend your entire life doing nothing besides waiting for your 'Ordinary-Person' hopes to someday be fulfilled."
    - To You, Zen Sayings of kodo Sawaki, pg 22

    Most note worthy replies :
While the Dharma can not be rushed, it does seem that we need to approach practice with a sense of urgency. I really appreciate this Gate for that sentiment.
    Hearing Buddha's words,
    Act quickly!
    Life depends on it.
    Wake up because,
    This is it!!

There's no time to waste and also we have all the time in the world.

This strikes to the heart of my upcoming weekend. I have a funeral to attend on Saturday.

Reminds me of a scene from Amelie when a child says to the young man, "Only a fool looks at the finger pointing at the sky."

I’m remembered of the Evening Gatha with this Gate:

            Let me respectfully remind you,
life and death are of supreme importance.
            Time swiftly passes by,
            and opportunity is lost.
            Let us awaken,
            awaken.
            Take heed,
            do not squander your life.
