The Eighth of the 108 Gates Of Dharma Illumination

    Gate Eight
Read the following, place it in your heart, sleep on it and own it.. Then, tomorrow, live it until evening when you can leave a brief comment as to insights or revelations you may have received during the process.

Mindfulness of Buddha is a gate of Dharma illumination; for [with it] reflection of [the state of] Buddha is pure.

The Koan: "Now and then Suzuki Roshi would make this point: "In the Lotus Sutra, Buddha says to light up one corner ... not the whole world. Just make it clear where you are. "

The Roshi also said during one talk that some of us wanted to be Zen Masters, and that this was very foolish. He said he wished he was like us, just starting out."Maybe you think you are green apples hanging on a tree, waiting to ripen so that you can be Buddhas," he said," but I think you are already ripe, perfect Buddhas now, ready to be picked."
    - 'Zen is right here' pgs 41 & 30

A most note worthy reply was:

The more that I allow my mind to dwell on Buddha, the easier it is for my mind to return to it's own state of being Buddha. The mind impresses upon itself an image of it's own Buddha nature.

    Is no less a moon

            Thank you Shokai

            I really like this
Now and then Suzuki Roshi would make this point: "In the Lotus Sutra, Buddha says to light up one corner ... not the whole world. Just make it clear where you are. "
