    The Ninety-fifth of 108 Gates Of Dharma Illumination

    95) The Ninety-fifth Gate; To teach and guide living beings

    To teach and guide living beings is a gate of Dharma illumination; for we ourselves neither indulge pleasures nor become tired. (Nishijima/Cross)

    Teaching sentient beings is a gate of realizing dharma; it does not bring unwholesome pleasure and indulgence. (Tanahashi)

    Gate Gatha:
    May we, together with all buddhas;
    Be a lamp unto all living beings
    That we may neither indulge pleasures nor become tired.

    Reflection Prompts:

    1. How does teaching others cause us to avoid Pleasures or tiredness?

    2. Write a new Gate Gatha.

    3. Comment on the Capping Verse.

      Thank you Shokai

      1. How does teaching others cause us to avoid Pleasures or tiredness?

      I am not sure. Perhaps leading by example? I know that to teach one really needs to know the topic or live by the teaching.

      2. Write a new Gate Gatha.

      May we, together with all buddhas;
      Guide all living beings
      That we may neither indulge pleasures nor become tired.

      3. Comment on the Capping Verse.

      I think we see here at Treeleaf those blurred lines between teacher and student frequently. Yes I think many of us are here primarily due to the teachers such as yourself Shokai, Jundo, Kokuu, Kyonin etc but we see almost daily some observation or revelation shared by a Sangha member that provides a Dharma lesson for us all.
