    The Seventy-third of 108 Gates Of Dharma Illumination

    73) The Seventy-third Gate: The balanced state, as a part of the state of truth

    The balanced state, as a part of the state of truth, is a gate of Dharma illumination; for [with it] we recognize that all dharmas are in equilibrium. (Nishijima/Cross)

    Branches of samadhi are a gate of realizing Dharma; they know the oneness of all things. (Tanahashi)

    Gate Gatha:
    May we, together with all buddhas;
    Practice the balanced state, as a part of the state of truth,
    That we may recognize when all dharmas are in equilibrium.
    Reflection Prompts:

    1. Is all dharmas are in equilibrium equal to know the oneness of all things?

    2. How does equanimity allow us to recognize that all dharmas are in equilibrium?

    3. Write a new Gate Gatha.

    Capping Verse:
    All things in balance
    Since day one;
    Only mind wobbles.

      The Seventy-third of 108 Gates Of Dharma Illumination

      1. The statement "all dharmas are in equilibrium" can be interpreted as knowing the oneness of all things, as both refer to the idea that everything is interconnected and interdependent. "Knowing the oneness of all things" may have a more metaphysical connotation while "all dharmas in equilibrium" may have a more practical or observable meaning.

      2. Equanimity, or the balanced state, allows us to recognize that all dharmas are in equilibrium because it helps us let go of our biases and preferences. When we approach things with equanimity, we don't judge them as good or bad, but rather as they are. This allows us to see things clearly and objectively, and recognize their inherent interconnectedness and interdependence.

      3. New Gate Gatha:

      Embracing impermanence as a part of the state of truth
      We honor the cycles of birth and death
      Knowing that all things arise and pass away
      May we find peace in the midst of change
