    The Forty-second of 108 Gates Of Dharma Illumination

    42) The Forty-second Gate: love of Dharma illumination.

    Love of Dharma illumination is a gate of Dharma illumination; for [with it] we attain Dharma illumination.(Nishijima/Cross)

    Love of realizing Dharma is a gate of realizing Dharma; for it leads to realizing Dharma. (Tanahashi)

    Gate Gatha:
    May we, together with all buddhas;
    Nurture a strong affection for the Dharma,
    That we may attain Dharma illumination.

    Reflection Prompts:

    Gate 42 is so similar to Gate 41, you may want to or not add to yesterday's comment; or reiterate Why you are here and write a new Capping Verse.

    Capping Verse:
    Embracing Dharma
    Is Dharma
    For love begets love

        Thank you Shokai

        This is an interesting one. I could read and clearly see enjoyment of the Dharma (Gate #41) in my own life. I would not have characterized my life as love of Dharma or of Dharma illumination. It almost seems like an over attachment. Anyway this Gate has given me something to think about in terms of my personal definition of love and my relationship with Dharma.

          I see the Love of Dharma as the Buddhist love expressed with the Brahmaviharas - loving-kindness, compassion, empathetic joy, and equanimity - and not as the dhukkha filled love based on clinging, attachment and egoic self-satisfaction. In this sense, to love the dharma is to already realize it!

          Loving the Dharma
          Already realizing the dharma
          Being illuminated by ten thousand things.
