The Twenty-second of 108 Gates Of Dharma Illumination

    22) The Twenty-second Gate: Repentance.

Repentance is a gate of Dharma illumination; for [with it] the mind within is stilled.(Nishijima/Cross)

Repentance is a gate of realizing Dharma; it keeps your inner mind in serene samadhi. (Tanahashi)

    Gate Gatha:
    May we, together with all buddhas;
Atone for all harmful actions, words and thoughts,
That our minds may be stilled.

    Reflection Prompts:

    1. Who benefits from your repentance?

    2. How does repentance still the mind?

    3. Write another capping verse.

    Capping Verse:
    Opening the cage
    Of the past
    We walk free and clear

Thank you, Shokai, for bringing us the Twenty-Second Gate.

      1. Who benefits from your repentance?
      All sentient beings.

      2. How does repentance still the mind?
Atoning for our harmful actions free our minds from constantly returning to our wrongdoings and risking to repeat them; so, it leads us to focus on the helpful good actions that we can make for the benefit of all sentient beings.

      3. Write another capping verse.
      Letting go of the past
      Letting go of the future
All beings benefit from our actions

          Thank you Shokai

I don’t think I can add anything better than Mateus’s answers
