    The Eighth of the 108 Gates Of Dharma Illumination

    Gate Eight
    Read the following, place it in your heart and sleep on it. Then, tomorrow, live it until evening when you can leave a brief comment as to insights or revelations you may have received during the process.

    Mindfulness of Buddha is a gate of Dharma illumination; for [with it] reflection of [the state of] Buddha is pure.

    By “Dharma Gate”, we mean a teaching or practice we can study to gain insights into the deepening our practice. It's a way to integrate our understanding of approaching reality.

    The Koan: "Now and then Suzuki Roshi would make this point: "In the Lotus Sutra, Buddha says to light up one corner ... not the whole world. Just make it clear where you are. "

    The Roshi also said during one talk that some of us wanted to be Zen Masters, and that this was very foolish. He said he wished he was like us, just starting out."Maybe you think you are green apples hanging on a tree, waiting to ripen so that you can be Buddhas," he said," but I think you are already ripe, perfect Buddhas now, ready to be picked."
    - Zen is right here pgs 41 & 30

    A most note worthy reply was:

    The more that I allow my mind to dwell on Buddha, the easier it is for my mind to return to it's own state of being Buddha. The mind impresses upon itself an image of it's own Buddha nature.

          When the full moon first rises, it looks very large because it is close to the horizon. Later at night, it looks smaller. It's the same moon - only our perception of it has changed. Our Buddha nature is constant, like the moon. Sometimes, we have trouble seeing it and feeling it. That trouble is our work.

              When we are mindful of the Buddha our actions can allow him to walk into this world again. Just as when we reach out to aid someone we become the eyes and arms of Kannon. It is important to leave this path for the Buddha.

              Mindful of the Buddha
              Allow your actions to be Ashoka's sand;
              The path he walks upon.
