Gate Six
Read the following, place it in your heart and sleep on it. Then, tomorrow, live and practice it until evening when you can leave a brief comment as to insights or revelations you may have received during the process.
Pure conduct of the actions of the mouth is a gate of Dharma-illumination; for it eliminates the four evils*
*1) lying, 2) suppression of speech, 3) abusive speech, 4) duplicitous speech
By “Dharma Gate”, we mean a teaching or practice we can study to gain insights into the deepening our practice. It's a way to integrate our understanding of approaching reality.
The Koan: "Goso said, "When you meet a man of the Way on the path, do not meet with words or silence. Tell me, how will you meet him." - Mumonkan case 361
