The sixth of the 108 Gates Of Dharma Illumination

    Gate Six
Read the following, place it in your heart and sleep on it. Then, tomorrow, live and practice it until evening when you can leave a brief comment as to insights or revelations you may have received during the process.

Pure conduct of the actions of the mouth is a gate of Dharma-illumination; for it eliminates the four evils*

*1) lying, 2) suppression of speech, 3) abusive speech, 4) duplicitous speech

By “Dharma Gate”, we mean a teaching or practice we can study to gain insights into the deepening our practice. It's a way to integrate our understanding of approaching reality.

The Koan: "Goso said, "When you meet a man of the Way on the path, do not meet with words or silence. Tell me, how will you meet him." - Mumonkan case 361

They may forget what you said, ...but they will never forget how you made thwm feel. - Zen is Right here / Suzuki

One poetic response to this question was:

Silence could be a cop out
When inwardly I rage and shriek
Ah! That is where that gate is.

Is it still silence if everything that can be said has been said?
