    45/108 Gates of Dharma Illumination

    The Forty-fifth Gate

    Knowledge of names and forms is a gate of Dharma illumination;
    for it clears away many obstacles.

    Names / Form:
    a word or a combination of words by which any object of thought is designated / the shape of a thing or person

    The Dharma may ultimately be beyond name and form, but to navigate the relative world, we still need them to point the way. Well, at least I do...

    A map without forms
    Is merely
    A piece of paper

      Names and forms are the theory of our school,
      The rules and the structure;
      Whilst zazen is the practice.
      These are the two arms of discipline.

      Gassho,
      Nengei
      Sat today. LAH.

      Please excuse any indication that I am trying to teach anything. I am a priest in training and have no qualifications or credentials to teach Zen practice or the Dharma.
