    The Hundred and second of 108 Gates Of Dharma Illumination

    The Hundred and second Gate; Entry into all conduct

    Entry into all conduct is a gate of Dharma illumination; for [with it] we attain realization of the Buddha-eye. (Nishijima/Cross)

    Entering all types of practice is a gate of realizing dharma; it acquires and completes the buddha eye. (Tanahashi)

    Gate Gatha:
    May we, together with all buddhas;
    Actualise the concept of all conduct
    That we may attain realization of the Buddha-eye.

    Reflection Prompt:
    What do you imagine all conduct or types of practice are referred to in this Gate?

    Capping Verse:
    Don’t fight the current
    Just let go
    The stream knows the way.

    Zazen/Shikantaza is the core of our practice but if we assume we are practicing only when we are sitting Zazen then we are mistaken. Our practice has to extend to our daily lives and activities. Washing the dishes, mowing the lawn, answering the phone, that next line of code, painting a fence, changing a diaper, just being with a friend that needs a friend to be with. All are our practice.

      I don't always feel like I grasp the logic of the gates. Many seem to be cause-and-effect statements, but that is not really how some of these work. I wonder if it means something like "increased wisdom and enlightened practice contribute one to the other". At some point, all practice is enlightened practice, presumably. Practice-realization.

      I should really get this one as my name literally means "wind flow(ing)" or "flowing wind"- Fūryū. Don't fight the current, go with the wind!

        I agree with Tairin, our practice is one that extends out into all of life. However, this could also refer to other types of practices that enrich or deepen our understanding of the Dharma, or compassion, or wisdom… practices such as paramita, metta, or yogacara… all can help to deepen and enrich our practice!
