    The Ninety-fifth of 108 Gates Of Dharma Illumination

    The Ninety-fifth Gate; To teach and guide living beings

    To teach and guide living beings is a gate of Dharma illumination; for we ourselves neither indulge pleasures nor become tired. (Nishijima/Cross)

    Teaching sentient beings is a gate of realizing dharma; it does not bring unwholesome pleasure and indulgence. (Tanahashi)

    Gate Gatha:
    May we, together with all buddhas;
    Be a lamp unto all living beings
    That we may neither indulge pleasures nor become tired.

    Reflection Prompts:
    1. How does teaching others cause us to avoid Pleasures or tiredness?
    2. Write a new Gate Gatha.
    3. Comment on the Capping Verse.

    Capping Verse:
    Student or teacher?
    Lines are blurred
    When sharing Dharma.

    1. Because one must practice if one is preaching! Leading by example! Also a teacher knows the Dharma through and through… so they just know better! As for tiredness… a teacher has much responsibility, and so must tirelessly help those with understanding the Dharma. A leader is always ready when needed.

    2. May we, together with all buddhas;
    Tirelessly teach to save all sentient beings
    And always maintain a wholesome example

    3. We all have something to share… a perspective on the Dharma. Sometimes the student can teach the teacher!

      Exactly what Choujou said. You must practice what you preach.

      I’ll throw another expression. You must walk the walk if you are going to talk the talk
