    The Seventy-fifth of 108 Gates Of Dharma Illumination

    The Seventy-fifth Gate: Right view

    Right view is a gate of Dharma illumination; for [with it] we attain the noble path on which the superfluous is exhausted. (Nishijima/Cross)
    Right view is a gate of reeling Dharma; it leads to exhaustion of desire and attainment of the noble path. (Tanahashi)

    Gate Gatha:
    May we, together with all buddhas;
    Actualize Right View,
    On the noble path on which desires are exhausted.

    Reflection Prompts:
    1. Explain how the exhaustion of desire Happens with Right View.
    2. And, Is this the only "superfluous" referred to in the Nishijima version?
    3. Write a new Gate gatha.

    Capping Verse:
    On the clearest days
    The garden
    Is relieved of weeds

    1. With right view, one realizes the emptiness of all things, and that desires only lead to attachment and suffering. Thus, with right view, one moves away from desire and attachment, it no longer serves them. It has been exhausted.

    2. No, I would assume this would mean also false dharmas and teachings, Anything unnecessary, and anything that would keep one from walking the path of the Buddha.

    3. May we, together with all buddhas;
    Dispel all desires and eliminate all that is unnecessary
    Through right view of the Buddha’s way.

      Right view means to see beyond and through division and discursive thought. The superfluous and desires for things to be other than they are distractions. Right view means to see the superfluous as being superfluous.
