The Seventy-first of 108 Gates Of Dharma Illumination

The Seventy-first Gate: Enjoyment, as a part of the state of truth

Enjoyment as a part of the state of truth, is a gate of Dharma illumination; for [with it] conduct is already managed .(Nishijima/Cross)
Branches of joy are a gate of realizing dharma; they lead to various types of samadhi. (Tanahashi)

    Gate Gatha:
    May we, together with all buddhas;
Practice Enjoyment, as a part of the state of truth,
That we may attain many kinds of balanced state.

    Reflection Prompts:
    1. How are conduct is already managed and various types of samadhi.alike?
    2. In either case, how does enjoyment lead to it?
    3. Write a new Verse.

    Capping Verse:
    Life is a wonder
    Every bit
    Just enjoy the ride

    1. I suppose that when one is any state of Samadhi, that is what you are engaged in doing, thus your conduct is one of a state of Samadhi. So it is managed! No need to worry about doing anything else. Just this. Plus, if one is in a state of enjoyment, one is positive and happy, thus not being negative or doing harmful things.

    2. I thoroughly enjoy exploring and coming to know the Dharma, and I would think that anyone on the path would feel this way. If not, then I would take this a sign that something is wrong and needs to be addressed within. Also, we’re talking about our search to save all sentient beings and end suffering, so that all can enjoy life!

    Open your eyes,
    and enjoy every moment!

      1. if you find enjoyment in the truth of reality (as it is just now) then your conduct is "managed" by simply being in accord with the dharma, thus joyful being here and now will not result in striving and reaching and needing to attain anything - samadhi.

      2. Enjoyment is simply a deep sense of peace and contentment that arises from fully accepting and being present with the moment. There is no seeking outside the dharma nor impulse to seek, strive, need or attach to things that would cause suffering.

Like the others said, enjoyment allows us to relax, to find peace, and settle into equanimity. Risk is to not get attached and grasp. There will be darker days too. We need to find peace and equanimity in those moments too
