The Twenty-fifth of 108 Gates Of Dharma Illumination

    The Twenty-fifth Gate: Truth.

Truth is a gate of Dharma illumination; for [with it] we do not deceive ourselves.(Nishijima/Cross)
Truthfulness is a gate of realizing Dharma; it does not deceive you. (Tanahashi)

    Gate Gatha:
    May we, together with all beings;
Realize the actual state of reality,
That we may not deceive ourselves.

    Reflection Prompts:
    1. How does a non-truth deceive us?
    2. Is it important that we recognize the truth
    3. care to try another capping verse? third time is a charm

    Capping Verse:
    Honesty and truth
    Light the way
    To authentic life

    1. A non-truth can become a false truth if believed, and then one is deceived, and carried away from the truth.

    2. Yes, but more important to become it.

    3. The truth is found
    Right here
    and now

If I wish to go to Dallas and someone says to drive west, I will end up in Amarillo.

There is this odd pull towards finding the truth and living a life of integrity. Some seem to have it and some don't. Yet even those who don't, falsely believe they possess it.

May we save all sentient beings.

Interestingly enough…. In our study of the Platform Sutra this week:

        “…Of all the world’s treasures,
nothing is more valuable than the truth. But not all those who un-
derstand the truth are able to teach it. And not all those who seek
instruction in the truth are able to encounter it, much less under-
stand it. Hence, this written record was made for future ages when
such a teaching might be hard to find.”
(Platform Sutra-Red Pine Translation- Commentary p.69)

I am grateful to all our ancestors, who all continue to point to the moon for us.

          Amarillo by morning
          Up from San Antone
          Everything that I got
Is just what I've got on
When that sun is high in that Texas sky
I'll be buckin' at the county fair
          Amarillo by morning
          Amarillo, I'll be there

All have it even those who falsely believe they posses it.

May there be no separate sentient beings requiring saving.

If we can’t be honest with ourselves, how can we hope to be honest with others?
