The 40th of 108 Gates Of Dharma Illumination

    Gate Forty
Read the following, place it in your heart and sleep on it. Then, tomorrow, live it until evening when you can leave a brief comment on what you may have received during the process.

Not being foolish is a gate of Dharma illumination; for it stops the killing of living things.

A “Dharma Gate” is a teaching or practice that can lead to spiritual growth: some kind of positive outcome in terms of our practice. A way to approach the truth.

I don’t equate foolish with careless. Careless seems more appropriate for this particular gate but I get the point.

I had the same thought as you, Tairin. The Tanahashi translation uses “ignorance”.

The fool carelessly ignores what causes suffering to sentient beings!
