HI Folks,
Jundo already made the official announcement but we are set to restart Oryoki practice here at Treeleaf! We will be holding Oryoki the 4rh Sunday in each month starting July 27, 2025 - 10:00 Central Time (check the Calendar for your local time).
A reminder, Oryoki, meaning "just enough" in Japanese, is a formal, mindful eating practice used in Zen Buddhist monasteries. It involves a set of nested bowls, utensils, and cloths, meticulously used to consume meals in a meditative and grateful manner. The practice emphasizes simplicity, appreciation for the food, and awareness of the interconnectedness of all beings
These sessions will be for everyone who wants to participate. Old hands and folks who have never done it before - all are welcome. We want to be as inclusive as possible.
For the first session on the 27th we will go over the basic game plan for the next few months and we will take a look at basic set of items you will need to participate. Don't worry if you don't have a formal Oryoki set as we will talk about various options to get you started. Remember no set of materials is better than any other. It is your heart, and your intent that are most important. We will end the first session the closing of the bowls - so you know how to have things set up for the next session.
If you can't make the first meeting it will be recorded, as will all of the following sessions.
Really looking forward to sharing this wonderful practice with everyone.
Hope to see you there!
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
Gassho,
Shinshi
