Dear all
I learned today of the passing of Joanna Macy at the age of 96. Joanna has been a pioneer of, and consistent presence in, Ecodharma for a large part of the late twentieth century and into this current millennium. Her books include Coming Back to Life, World as Lover World as Self, and Active Hope (co-authored with Chris Johnstone) which we read together here and which introduced us to the ideas of Business as Usual, The Great Unravelling and The Great Turning. Together, she called her combination of dharma and environmental activism 'The Work That Reconnects' and it has touched many many people both in Buddhism and the Green movement.
One of her last contributions to the field was the podcast We Are The Great Turning, in which she recorded conversations with her much younger student Jess Ferrante. This is very much worth listening to as a final statement of how she saw her work over a lifetime, and what still needs doing: https://resources.soundstrue.com/we-...rning-podcast/
Tricycle offers this obituary on her life and work: https://tricycle.org/article/remembering-joanna-macy/
