    [EcoDharma] Earth Day

April 22 is the 54th Celebration of Earth Day

The day is meant for us to take a moment and appreciate the Earth which sustains us all. We are interdependent with it and its wonderful myriad of sentient beings and its beauty.

Planting a tree, taking a walk in nature, or sitting Zazen outside are simple ways for us to acknowledge our connection to that which is us.

    Thich Nhat Hanh

With each step, I come home to the Earth.
With each step, I return to my source.
With each step, I take refuge in Mother Earth.
Each step can express your love for the Earth.

Here's a tree I planted with my family a couple of months ago: 20240418_151553.jpg

Makes me happy to see it grow, I'll recite the poem while I water it

              Another Poem for Earth Day

Let them not say: we did not see it.
              We saw.

Let them not say: we did not hear it.
              We heard.

Let them not say: they did not taste it.
              We ate, we trembled.

Let them not say: it was not spoken, not written.
              We spoke,
we witnessed with voices and hands.

Let them not say: they did nothing.
              We did not-enough.

Let them say, as they must say something:

              A kerosene beauty.
              It burned.

Let them say we warmed ourselves by it,
              read by its light, praised,
              and it burned..

"Whatever preserves and enhances this meadow in the natural cycles of its transformation is good; what is opposed to this meadow or negates it is not good. . . That is good in economics that fosters the natural processes of this meadow. That is bad in economics that diminishes the capacity of this meadow to renew itself each spring and to provide a setting in which crickets can sing and birds can feed. . . these evolving biosystems deserve the opportunity to be themselves and to express their own inner qualities. As in economics so in jurisprudence and law and political affairs: That is good which recognizes the rights of this meadow and the creek and the woodlands beyond to exist and flourish in their ever-renewing seasonal expression . . ."

Earth Day is now in many places. As the sun sets here there are still a few hours to wait. May I ask for Metta for this place in the Universe that contains so much life of which we are all one. Interdependence is a word of so much meaning
