[Ecodharma] One Earth Sangha Ecosattva Training

    Dear all

I have been looking deeper in this training and have learned the following:

    1. The course is self-paced and there are eight sessions to work through: https://oneearthsangha.org/articles/...g-v5/#overview Usually these are done as a group at the pace of one a month. We read/watch the material alone and then meet to discuss it for 90 minutes on Zoom or similar.

    2. We need to register our group (I can do that) and then individually with the cost being $150 each with a 25% discount for being part of a group (so $112.50 I think?) and there are discounts for unwaged folk.

    3. There are monthly meetings by One Earth Sangha which we are all free to attend, but I don't think they are compulsory. These take place from 12.30 - 14.00 EST on the second Sunday of each month.

I am not sure when would be a good time to start. I was thinking of September but this would run into Ango. Would January 2024 feel too late?

Anyway, let me know if you are interested for (almost) definite. Once we have a few of us as core participants, we can invite other members of the sangha to join also (if everyone would be okay with that).

This is a FAQ for the course but if you have any questions, let me know, and if I cannot find the answer I can email the organisers at One Earth Sangha. I think this would be a great opportunity!

    Hi Kokuu,
I don’t think January is too late. I am hesitant to take on something extra during Ango..unless this could be considered a primary Ango commitment.

Time wise I will go with what is best for all.

I thought the course was started at the same time for all who register but apparently I misunderstood. So the monthly meeting for everyone will not be coordinated with the sessions since every group will be starting at different time. That seems odd to me because how will the discussion topic be relevant to students who are at different points in the training? Just thinking out loud. I need to dive deeper into the course description.

That was my thinking too, Naiko.

I get the feeling that the monthly meetings are not intended to line up with the sessions and are more general so that they are relevant to everyone, regardless of where they are on the course.

          Dear Friends.

I’ve been quiet on committing to this Ecosattva training. I wanted to see where the consensus of this group landed first. This training sounds like a fairly large commitment and I am not sure I have the capacity. I agree that starting after Ango makes the most sense and I’ll see where I am at that time.

I get that, Tairin. It does feel like a considerable commitment and it is good to know your limits.

I think January would work well for me if our group meeting time were otherwise at a time I can manage.

                    Kokuu,

Will they provide zoom meeting rooms for our group meetings or is that our responsibility? If our responsibility do we have something here to allow that?

Hoseki, Aprapti and Nengei - great that January works for all of you!

I think we have six of us (and apologies if I miss anyone) - Kokuu, Doshin, Naiko, Hoseki, Aprapti and Nengei. And Tairin is a maybe depending on circumstances.

Will they provide zoom meeting rooms for our group meetings or is that our responsibility? If our responsibility do we have something here to allow that?
I have a professional Zoom account or I imagine we could use Treeleaf's meeting room if it wasn't already scheduled for something.

We will of course try to find a meeting time that works for everyone so we can compare schedules nearer the time.

Is it okay with everyone to make a more general Treeleaf post to see if others wish to join? I will run it past Jundo first also.

                            Kokuu,

I am good with a general announcement about this training. Is there any limit on the size of our group? Also using the zoom account you have would be good since it has a lot of features we may use.

                            Andy,

                            Welcome

As you will note above we are opening it up to all Treeleafers. If you have not already read the course description please review it. They also charge a registration fee. You might want to go through the threads in the EcoDharma section of the forum to see the ideas we have been sharing the past couple of years. We are just about to finish our second book.

I don't think there is a limit but my own thoughts is that anything more than 10-12 would probably be too much for discussions. What do you and everyone else think?

                              Hi Andy

Absolutely! As Doshin says, just read the information at the top and maybe have a look through what we have been reading and discussing. But anyone with an interest in environmental concerns in the context of Zen practice is welcome here.
