[Ecodharma] Leaked video of sediment pollution from deep sea mining (article)

    Dear all

There are currently companies bidding to undertake deep sea mining in order to harvest metals from the ocean floor. However, there is debate about the safety of this, particularly because of the potential for disturbances on the sea bed to stir up sediments of toxic matter which will affect sea creatures.

A recent scientific assessment of one company showed a video of sediment being deposited back into the sea from a mining vessel and also is suggestive that there are attempts to influence the degree of scientific oversight.

Company rebuts claims by scientists that ‘uncontrolled and unscientific’ practices highlight dangers of going ahead with seabed mining

That’s concerning. Thank you, Kokuu. I’m grateful those whistleblowers released the video.

It’s becoming more and more clear that nothing will really change for the environment if we let the big oil companies continue to operate Business as Usual.
