Dear all
I was sad to read of the death of climate scientist and inventor of the Gaia Hypothesis, James Lovelock FRS, at the age of 103. His book 'Gaia, A New Look at Life on Earth' proposed the earth to be a self-regulating super-organism based on analysis of the feedback loops involved in keeping the atmosphere within limits hospitable to life. I did not agree with everything Lovelock said, but that book was pivotal in my choosing to study Environmental Science as an undergraduate.
In his later years, he continued to maintain an interest in climate research, although did become increasingly despondent about our chances of turning things around.
