Ecodharma: the problem with carbon offsetting schemes (newspaper article)

In this piece, the veteran environmental journalist, George Monbiot, sets out how carbon offsetting schemes may be accelerating the pace of global climate change rather than helping and causing other problems too. Businesses are nothing if not adept at using schemes to improve their image.

This is frustrating as much as it isn't surprising.

See also Tesla who aren't really a car company as much as they are a carbon emission credit trading company - https://www.autoweek.com/news/green-...oin-than-cars/ -

And so carbon offsetting and emission credits are just another commodity to be traded, allowing cars to be made driven or made, funded by people thinking they are reducing their own carbon footprint by offsetting their carbon or buying electric cars - and then we have the concept of the carbon footprint being invented by BP to push responsibility for emissions onto us but that's probably enough ranting for one post.
