        Yes. Ethics and the precepts are the foundation, because we are giving all the time, even when we're not aware of it. What we contribute to the world -- the actions we choose, the ethics we embody, the way we interact with others -- flows continuously from the heart. Black heart, red heart, soft heart, hard heart, selfish heart, angry heart, kind heart... We practice to lessen the effects of greed, anger, and ignorance in our hearts, and this works its way out into the world in everything we do.
