ATTENTION ALL INOS: Chant from the Diaphragm

    Hi All,

Our usual advice in Zazen is to let the breath be the breath, at its own pace, but even then we usually breathe nice and deep. We say "from the diaphragm" or (more traditionally) "from the Hara."

In chanting especially, it makes a big difference to chant deeply from the diaphragm, as opposed to "up in the throat" or chest. This is not true only for Buddhist Sutras, for opera singers, public speakers and the like know this as well. Please learn to chant deeply, from the diaphragm, because it will give your voice resonance and depth.

    THANK YOU (said with resonance)!
