I am not a teacher and I might be totally wrong about this, but I think it's not too late to join us in Ango. It's an intensive practice time that is a joy to experience.
About Jukai I am not sure. Maybe you could wait for next year while you get the hang of things and learn a bit more.
For Jukai, I think you'd better ask Jundo, our teacher.
Thank you for you post and interest in undertaking Jukai. I am sorry, but it is too late to jump in at this stage, but you are more than welcome to follow along with the precept study if you wish. Whether we are undertaking Jukai or not, we can still live and engage with the precepts right now. Then you can formally take Jukai and sew a rakusu next year. How does that sound? =)
Thank you for your replies. I will follow along with the precept study. Thank you for the link.

#Sat today
Hi Dave,
Unless you were already very familiar with the Practice, Shikantaza and this place, I would advise you to hang back until next year.
However, that is only because I have a view of the Ceremony as just a celebration of how you live today. It does not make you a "real Buddhist", in my book. What makes on a "real Buddhist" is to seek to live gently today toward self and others (not two, by the way), learning about the Precepts and all the Teachings, and (of course) sitting. Next year, if you feel at home here, you can slowly take time to sew and join in, but it will still be just a celebration of what happens now and each day.
Thanks Jundo. I am in no hurry. I received an invitation to a silent sewing and it made me wonder about participating. I shall continue on with your basic training series and sitting. I believe the basics, such as the four noble truths and eightfold path, should be revisited over and over. There is a new perspective each time.
