Treeleaf Full Moon Precepts Recommitment Ceremony - Ryaku Fusatsu

UPDATE: time has changed to 17.00 UK time (12.00 EST, 9.00 PST, 18.00 Central Europe), Thursday 28 January

    Dear all

Since early Buddhist times, it has been traditional for sanghas to gatha together once or twice a month (at the full and new moon) and recite the monastic training rules.

In our Sōtō tradition, this has become a ceremony known as Ryaku Fusatsu which translates as “abbreviated or simple ceremony to continue doing good”.

Going forward, we hope to offer this ceremony on Zoom as a totally optional part of Treeleaf, for those who would like to symbolically recommit to taking the precepts. Practically, it is an excellent way to remind ourselves of the vows we have taken and what they mean.

This is a lovely small piece with some more information on the ceremony and its origins: http://broken-bokken.blogspot.com/20...u-fusatsu.html

My intention is to have the first of these ceremonies this coming Thursday (28 January) at 17.00 UK time in the Meeting Room. It will probably last around 30 minutes, including a brief period of Zazen. It will be recorded so those who cannot attend live can still join in.

If you would like to take part, please message me with an offline email address so I can send you the ceremony text, or I may figure out a way to upload it somewhere it can be downloaded!

    Kokuu,

This sounds wonderful. I'm definitely interested, but I'll most likely have to participate with the recording most months as this would be during my work hours. I'll be there "live" in spirit though.

    Gassho,
    Seikan

Sounds wonderful and goes beautifully with where I am in practice(rereading Mind of Clover). I think I will sit this one with the recorded version first so I can learn and then join the Sangha with what sounds like a beautiful practice.
Thank you for making this available to us all.

            Hi Kokuu,

            This sounds wonderful.
I wish to join, but this Thursday is a bit tricky for me. However I will sit with the recording and next time hope to be there with you live [emoji1374]

I've never done this before; i look forward to sitting along to the recordings and doing this. This would be 6 o'clock in the morning for me, which is really early (i wake up at 8 o'clock) so the recording is a great boon. Thank you.

I hope that once things settle down here that I can be part of this

2pm UK is 9am my time - I have a 9:30 am conference call; otherwise I'd be on. I'd love to join the recording.

                            Hi all

Thank you for your interest and comments.

14.00 UK time does not seem to be particularly good for anyone! Would another slot be better, either earlier or later?

Otherwise it may just be myself, Getchi, and Getchi's children with everyone else joining later!

The fact that full moons do not occur on any particular day means that it will fall on a weekday five times out of seven, or else there is also the option of moving it to the closest weekend. Would something like a Saturday be better for people?

I'm fine with any day. But as I mentioned I'd like to view it once or twice first. For myself personally, I vote to keep it on new and full moons.
