Well, some of us are getting somewhat long in the tooth!

I get up and down with a cane; the last time I performed full prostrations, I collapsed backwards into several sangha members; pandemonium. Now I just bow. I remember my mother-in-law's distress at not being able to properly perform wudu; ritual ablutions before salah, from her death bed. The imam assured her that the ritual was simply a physical enactment of an internal process; true wudu and salah; the only ones that matter, occur in the heart. Under such circumstances, the Merciful One who sees and hears all would not stand on such superficial ceremony, but would certainly without doubt hear her prayer. I think the true bow is much like that, too.
